What is the process for D&B investigations?
D&B is actively working to improve the report investigation process to ensure that you have the most accurate information necessary to decide with confidence.
You will be able to view the status of Investigations submitted from the Companies Tab in the Investigations system folder. Here you will see pending investigations and investigation responses from D&B. When an investigation has been completed you will receive an email and the status will be updated within DNBi. Instead of receiving a paper copy of the investigation you will be able to view the updated report or investigation response within DNBi from the investigations folder.
When completing the investigation submission form, please provide as much accurate information as possible. Most importantly, be sure to include a phone number and the proper state. D&B will attempt to update the company record using two investigative methods:- D&B will call the provided phone number and/or a listed company officer three times per day over a three day period
- Outside sources (on-line directory assistance, secretary of state, internet searches, business licensing, licensing boards, etc.) will be contacted to verify active business operations.
Investigations may conclude with two possible outcomes:
If sufficient information is identified to update or create a new report, you will receive:
- An alert in DNBi indicating a report is now available.
- In DNBi, you will have a link within your list of investigations that will connect you to the D&B information on the investigated company.
If the business cannot be verified, the Investigation will conclude with a UTL (unable to locate) status. You will be notified of this via DNBi alert.
